None of these require prior experience of archives, teaching or Holocaust history. They require reliability and a tolerance for slow work. If you can offer something that is not on this list, say so.

If your family kept anything

You do not need to know whether what you have is important. People bring us things they assumed were worthless — a travel permit, a refusal letter, a photograph of a street — which turn out to place a family in a particular town in a particular month, and that is exactly the kind of thing the public record is missing.

An archivist will come to you. Nothing is taken away without your agreement, most material is scanned and handed straight back, and you decide item by item whether it is published, catalogued only, or held privately. You can change your mind afterwards.
